Happy National Wine Day!
This Thursday, May 25, we will be celebrating around the nation with the echoing sounds of corks popping. If you are a lover of wine you will be happy to know that there are 14 other wine holidays throughout the year; and not to worry because we will get to each and every one of them as they come, but today’s celebration is all about the wine, the beautifully fragrant, highly enjoyable, and very food friendly adult beverage.
I grew up in a large Italian household and this holiday makes me feel like I’m coming home again. We always had wine in the house, but never any store bought wine. The wine we served was special, in fact very special because it was made by my grandfather from a single cutting of a grapevine he brought over from Balestrate, Sicily and transplanted into our backyard. That one small twig, resembling nothing more that a stick, grew into a beautiful grapevine providing us with years of our own one of a kind homemade wine.
Today there are many ways to celebrate National Wine Day including making your own homemade wine. But for those of you who are all about the relaxation and enjoyment that sharing a glass of wine with family and friends can bring, there are plenty of ways to make this holiday all about the wine, including making your own photo inspired wine charms, cooking with wine, hosting your own wine tasting party, and yes even bathing in it!
And last, but certainly not least, I couldn’t leave you without a little bit of wine humor. Check out Elaine, from the Seinfeld series on how she makes her decision to Commit To Drinking Only One Glass of wine. Salute!
