Calling all dog lover’s, it looks like we are heading into another Pet Holiday today with International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, after just coming off the heels (yes pun intended) of yesterday’s holiday, National Walk Your Dog Day,

And that’s OK because I don’t think we can ever celebrate our fur babies enough, and today is going to be an extra special treat (yes, I know I did it again, but I promise that will be the last one) for them!

A quick little “Dog Biscuit History” that I found interesting. In 1907 inventor Carleton Ellis was asked to come up with an idea on what to do with what was called “waste milk.”

His idea was for a milk-based biscuit, but when he tried the special treats on his own dog, Ellis felt he didn’t care for them… until he shaped it into a bone. Now that’s something my dog Max would have done, lol, but even a dog knows what he/she likes and doesn’t like.

The milk treats were originally named Malatoid, until 1915 when it was changed to Milk-Bone and eventually Nabisco acquired the product.

Fast forward to 2019 where dog “treats” have become much more than Ellis could have ever imagined. There a literally hundreds to pick from in almost every flavor imaginable, and there are even Pet Bakeries that specialize in some of the most beautifully decorated human-grade dog treats you have ever seen.

Most of our dogs probably don’t really care what kind of biscuit you give them, but I’m sure they have their favorites.

Your dog is always there for you, showering you with unconditional love, wanting nothing more than your love in return. So today why not show them a little extra love with their favorite biscuit or two, okay maybe three – they are sure to appreciate it!

Happy International Biscuit Appreciation Day!
