National Chocolate Cake Day: Why Chocolate Makes You Feel Happy

By | January 27, 2019

Today is one of my many, many favorite holiday celebrations, but truthfully almost any holiday that involves chocolate is going to be included in my list of top 10 favorites!

Chocolate flavored sweet drinks and cake like treats have been around since ancient times, but it wasn’t until the late 1800’s that Dr. James Baker from Boston discovered that you could grind cocoa using a powder mill, and it’s believed that’s when the world’s first chocolate cake was baked.

If you love chocolate as much as I do you can relate to the smile, happiness, and pleasure derived from that deliciously decadent first bite, and there is a scientific reason for that.

According to nationaltoday.com “Chocolate triggers the release of serotonin and endorphins, which are neurotransmitters for happiness and pleasure. It also contains phenylethylamine, which elevates our mood when feel happiness or love. Who knew getting emotional over chocolate was so natural?”
