Today we are celebrating National Handbag Day, and suddenly I realized I really don’t know the difference between a purse and a handbag!
Feeling a little fashion illiterate, I asked some of my closest friends about their thoughts on the subject.
After all their collaboration, and going back and forth, the consensus was, “If you purchase it at a high end store it’s a handbag, and if you purchase it at Target, Walmart, or any of the other middle of the road stores, it’s a purse.
So I did a little research and it appears that this holiday was created by Purseblog, in 2013.
At first I thought this makes perfect sense, if you are going to create a holiday about handbags it stands to reason that it would come from the fashion and handbag industry.
But then I thought it ironic that they chose to name their blog purseblog, which only continued to fuel my confusion.
My thoughts on the subject – no matter what you call it, be it a handbag or a purse, most women including myself would be lost without it.
You can celebrate today by posting #National Handbag Day and sharing photos of your favorite handbag/purse on social media, or perhaps if you’re like me, you may want to take a little time to clean out and reorganize your handbag.
Fun Handbag Fact
Did you know that in the early 1900’s, the term handbag was used to refer to as men’s hand baggage? Here comes that confusion again…
