Yes, you read it right. Hugging someone is so much more than just an “I’m so happy to see you” greeting.

That wonderful feeling you get when you give or receive a hug releases a hormone called oxytocin into your bloodstream, and with it comes a list of helpful and healthy benefits.

Once released, oxytocin has been known to physically help reduce your blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety; while emotionally helping to elevate your mood and memory, and increase bonding and closeness.

I like what of California has to say about hugs puts it, “You just may find, with a little bit of extra effort, you not only feel better, but you also make someone else’s day!”

Have you hugged someone today?

Happy National Hug A Friend Day!
